2 for 1,to which Marjorie replied, ' No. BOGOF' ( Buy One Get One Free ) to much laughter and applause. The judging was undertaken in a more serious vein, although interspersed with humorous anecdotes and helpful hints and tips. The members had turned out entries in force to try to win or defend the title, and it was a close run thing. However, on this occasion the Ladiespipped the Gents by less than 1 point, with 20 points going to Helen Turton, Edward Sabin and Alan Townsend ( twice).
Ray Brightman from Sheffield came to show some of his work, and excellent work it was covering many years. In fact, he said the Club was privileged to be the one to see his final slide show, as slides are now a thing of the past and he has not ventured, yet, into digitally projected images. His adventurous work with prints would suggest it won't be long.
Meetings continue weekly through to June, when fortnightly meetings, often outings, take place. Anyone wishing to join in will be made welcome. Haxey Church Hall 7.30pm, alternate Tuesdays and Wednesdays, more or less!
| Visitors flocked to the Axholme Camera
Club for the showing of Parry Jenkins 'Musical
Mystery Tour'. Parry, of Wroot, is well known
around the Isle and his digital images are not to
be missed. The show he put on was excellent
and thoroughly enjoyed by all present, especially
as appropriate music accompanied the pictures, with
Parry also playing the piano, an added treat.
The Royal Photographic Society is world renowned for the superb quality of its members' work. Members of the Club enjoyed a show of excellent photographs produced by the RPS Nature Group. Their work is always inspirational, and this is evident by an increased number of Nature photographs being entered in competitions by members. When Tony and Marjorie Furmston of Normanton were invited to judge the 'Ladies versus Gents' competition they were pleased with the friendly reception. It is one of their favourite clubs, they say, and they are always pleased to revisit. The Vice Chairman David Ulyett welcomed them and explained that he was very keen on a bargain, and here we had |

Both John and Cliff are still active members of the club, attending meetings regularly and entering competitions.|This continuing enthusiasm for photography is a wonderful achievment, especially as Cliff recently celebrated his eightieth birthday . Both have embraced the digital age and use the new technology to great effect, often producing award winning images.

| The annual Photographer of the Year
Competition, sponsored by Tom Dennis Imaging of
Scunthorpe, was well supported with over sixty
entries. Judge Erica Oram from Sheffield, had a
difficult task. She studied all the photographs in
the competition, and commented on each one, giving
helpful advice where she felt it would be of use,
before short-listing ten, which turned out to be
fourteen, so high was the overall standard of work.
From these she eventually selected her top three,
with the winner being Jean Goodburn's beautiful
study of a long tailed tit. Jean was presented with
the Tom Dennis Imaging Trophy and one of three
prizes donated by member Alan Townsend. Alan then
went on to win second and third prizes!

Previoiusly, Alan Townsend had given a talk to members, 'Film to Digital', in which he shared some of his earliest images, taken on film and processed in the darkroom, alongside his more recent digital work, comparing the different techniques and results. It was a very interesting and informative talk as well as an opportunity to see more of Alan's terrific work. The format was far better than some of visiting speakers who give similar talks, and it is good to know we have such talent in the club.

Report - 2nd Sept 2009
"The Ground Became the Sky" (c) Leonid Goldin 2008, Israel
The main event was the showing of a DVD presentation compiled by the London Salon showing their 2008 collection. The "slide show" contained approximately eighty photographs and each was accompanied by a commentary by Leigh Preston . A wide range of subjects were covered and many of the photographs had been heavily manipulated to produce the final result. Some members complained that there was not a decent photograph in the collection but most seemed to enjoy the show and it stimulated discussion and comment. Medal winners from the collection may be viewed here. (SK - Sept 09)
Report - June 2009
The Emlyn Perrett Trophy was awarded for the first time to Alan Townsend at the Axholme Camera Club AGM recently. Alan scored top marks over the year for his consistently high quality entries in club competitions. A rule change last year, using only the top ten marks of each member in each category, gave everyone the opportunity to score well, and Alan was closely challenged by Andy Kershaw, Allan Rowsell and Peter Webster.

Alan ( right )received his trophy from Chairman Alan Rowsell.
Also presented with a prize was Judy Newton, judged to be the most improved member over the year. Comparing results from last year's and this year's competitions, Judy hads improved her score tremendously.

The Pictop.co.uk Samsonite Camera Bag was presented by David Ulyett, Vice Chairman.
The Committee was re-elected, with Jan Neale co-opted to assist Competition Secretary Helen Turton, and George Fiddler taking on the role of External Competiton Organiser. Andy Kershaw will continue to mount an exhibition of competition winners' work in Misterton Library. New membership cards will be isued shortly, sponsored by Tom Dennis Imaging of Scunthorpe, who also donated gift vouchers to be used at the committees discretion.
The programme for next season is taking shape with some excellent speakers already booked. Among other things, an evening of astro-photography, wildlife at home and abroad, members projects are all planned with competitions for prints and digitally projected images.
No meetings are held in August, except the planned outing on 2nd. The new season begins on September 1st at 7.30pm in the Church Hall Haxey, and all are welcome to attend, be they existing members, lapsed members, new members or just visitors.
